It seems to me that the modern household inevitably has a ton of random cord clutter. I don’t know about you, but in my home there are random cords, cables, and chargers everywhere. We try as best we can to keep them organized. They all have their individual homes. Yet, the struggle to contain the cord clutter is real.
I was very recently lamenting some of the cord mess in my home. The charging cord for my daughter’s night light is constantly falling behind her bookcase. The baby loves to find any cord she can and pull on it and try to eat it. Even more, I really can’t stand the look of disorganized cords everywhere (like behind my computer desk, ahem).
So it was fortuitous when I was contacted by Blue Key World and asked if I would review their Cable Clip Organizers. I said I’d be delighted to, because at this point, anything will help.
What they are: They are basically small (one inch) half spheres that have a sticky back, a la Command Hook style. They are the perfect size for keeping one cord in place. The ones I was sent come in a pack of six.
The organizers themselves are very unobtrusive, which I like. It means that you can stick one to something to keep your cord in place, and it’s not obvious. It keeps everything looking neat and clean.
I tried these in a few places in my home that were in the most desperate need of cable management.
I was most eager to try one of these little guys in my daughter’s room. She has this adorable kitty night light (it’s from Amazon), but it requires a cable to recharge. The cable just lives sort of draped over her bookcase and occasionally falls behind it, and it can be a slight pain in the tuchus to retrieve it.
So I stuck one of these little bad boys on the back of the bookcase to hold the cable. It’s like a Command Hook in that you peel the paper off the back and then apply the sticky side to any surface. As you can see from the image above, the plug can’t slip through it.
Here you can see that even when the plug is pulled upwards, the thin cord still stays in place. It doesn’t even attempt to pull out of the cable clip.
Here’s a view from the top of the bookcase. The Cable Clip is unobtrusive, but holds the cord in place perfectly.
Next I tried one on my husband’s night stand. Unlike the thin cable in my daughter’s room, he uses a charger much wider cord. It is usually draped in an unsightly way over his night stand. It’s like an invitation for the baby to come pull on it and try to eat it.
I stuck a Cable Clip to the raw wood on the back of the night stand to see if it would work. I was surprised at how well it stuck to it.
Now he doesn’t need to have the entire long cable balancing on top of his night stand. The Cable Clip keeps it firmly in place, so only the length needed to reach his phone needs to stick out. As you can see above, the Clip holds this fatter cord in place very well.
I also tried these on my keyboard tray for my keyboard and mouse cords. Mostly I just wanted them to stay in place.
The Cable Clips stuck very well to the treated wood surface of my keyboard tray and keep the cords in place.
The last place we tried was on our shelves to keep our TV antenna in place. The antenna is attached to the wall and the white cord hangs down, which irritates my husband. I gave him a handful of Cable Clips and told him to go hog wild.
He stuck a few Cable Clips to the back of the shelf, and now the cord is no longer visible.
I still have a few extra Clips, and I’m sure I’ll find other places in my home with loose cables to organize!
My final thoughts on this product: I love it! I think these Clips are very useful for keeping your cables and cords in place and out of sight. They can keep your home looking free of cord clutter as well as saving you time searching for cords that have fallen down. They stick very well to a variety of surfaces and are unobtrusive.
My one wish is that they offered a larger version to corral several cables together.
My only concern is that if you have a very small child who still puts things in his or her mouth, be aware that these may present a choking hazard. A determined child could pull one of these off and try to eat them. Be sure to stick them out of reach of small children.
