I’m back with round two of my new year’s goals for 2019. In case you missed it, here is the link to Part 1.

To recap the last post, my first three goals are:

  1. Finish the Konmari Method
  2. Turn the Room of Crap into a home office/craft room
  3. Create emergency kits and a Go-Bag

4. Make more strides to live sustainably

Anyone who knows me well knows that I’m incredibly interested in sustainability and in protecting our environment. We already do a fair amount to live in a more sustainable way, and we take measures to reduce our waste. Yet there’s a lot more we could do.

I’ve been slacking off since having children, because sometimes these days my time and energy are just worth more, I hate to say. But it’s time to go back to doing more. Here are some of the ways I want to work towards living more sustainably this year:

  • Create a backyard garden
  • Create a backyard compost pile
  • Purchase more products locally and support local businesses

5. Publish 100 blog posts

One hundred is a big number. There are what, 52 weeks in a year, so if I publish two posts a week, that’s 104. Give myself four weeks grace, and that’s down to 100.

Can I do it? I’m starting to think that, while this goal is certainly achievable, I’ve bitten off more than I can chew. A lot of time goes into writing these posts, especially if they have a high word count. As a parent of two children who do not go to bed early who also don’t give me a nap time break, it’s a lot of sleep I have to lose.

So, I don’t know for sure if I can accomplish this goal. It depends on how the year goes, honestly. I really want to try, which is why I set this goal. I love writing this blog and helping my readers, and I really want it to grow and be successful. How to do that? Lots of content!

6. Spend more time with family

This is something I’ve struggled with this year. I’ve complained to my husband often enough that I’m not spending enough time with the kids due to being the one who has to do the cleaning/organizing/decluttering or the planning or something else or other. Then I added blog writing to the mix. Hmmm… I think this goal is in contrast to the one above.

I’m going to try to find ways to spend more quality time with my family, even if that means putting aside some of the other goals listed above. Which leads into my last goal…

7. Take more time to relax

Maybe I should have listed this as the number one goal this year. I think it’s an important one.

I could quite possibly call 2018 “The Year I Nearly Killed Myself Trying To Do Everything”. (My husband just read this sentence over my shoulder and said, “That’s extremely accurate.”)

I’ve spent the last few months stressed out of my mind trying to keep my house at enough of a cleanliness level to keep my anxiety at bay, trying to do all the activities, taking my kids everywhere, and cooking all the things.

I began writing this blog in June, and in October I took an online blogging course. This had the unintended effect of completely stressing me out in a way I previously wasn’t with the blog. There’s been an overwhelming amount of things to learn, and there’s still an overwhelming amount to do to make it successful.

There seems to never be enough time to get everything done. The water is constantly up to my eyeballs. The holiday season has cemented that for me. (Did anyone else cry when the beautiful from scratch pie crust fell off the side of the pie plate to drown in the pie filling while baking in the oven? No? Just me?)

And I’ve come to the conclusion that no matter how much I do, no matter how much I clean and declutter and organize and put things away… there’s always more to do! I could spend every second of the day doing it all and never stop because there will always be more.

But I need to stop. I desperately need to take breaks and try to relax a bit, and enjoy my children more. Easier said than done.

So I have this gargantuan list of goals here, but I’m going to just put them aside if I need a break. I won’t let 2019 be the year I actually do kill myself trying to do all the things.

  1. Did you take your 2019 goals and break them down into monthly, weekly, daily goals? I set 1 goal for myself. Call my sibs at least once a month. We’re not much of a stay in touch family and I’d like to change my part in that.

    1. No, I didn’t break them down any further, but I could probably benefit from doing that. Calling your siblings monthly is an excellent goal. 🙂
